Is there a reason why my cat is licking my foot? Someone left this gorgeous cat on the streets, they moved out and left it We took it in and he's the biggest fruitcake. He just loves people. But he only hangs about me for some reason.
Anyways, he's been licking my foot and my big toe for some reason and I don't like it.His tongue is like sandpaper.
Is it normal for cats to be licking feet? I know dogs lick feet. But cats? |
Animals, unlike humans, cannot add salt to their foods like we do (or any other mineral), so they must look for it elsewhere. Humans tend to eat more salt than is needed, so we excrete a thin layer of it outside of our body when we sweat, meaning that it will now be on our skin. Animals have a craving for salt, so they will tend to lick anything that has it (rocks, your toe, etc). For the same reason, this is why we give horses salt licks and use salt to trick deers during hunting season.
In winter conditions, you can typically see an animal or two licking an icy road, because they are simply going after the salt that has been spread around.
The cat isn't trying to harm you and obviously trusts you enough to (somewhat) provide it with mandatory minerals that it needs to survive. Please don't shoo it away unless it starts biting you or something. :) |
My dog keeps licking his foot but there is no visible damage. Any ideas? My dog has licked his foot so much that his hair came off. He doesn't limp but he is sensitive when we touch it. I thought I saw a puss pimple but it is no longer there. Any ideas on this? |
| could be dry skin. that can itch and from licking(trying to itch it) so much it could be sore. i would take him to the vet to get it checked out. good luck! |
My dog can not stop licking his back foot? my dog is licking his foot && not stopping and now he is bitting his foot. Like his whole foot in his mouth. I tried to look at his paw but i couldn't see anything really. Hes doing this licking thing non-stop. Is he just scratch himself. But why this long?? does this happen to your dogg?
thanks(: |
| It could be skin irritation, allergies, and fleas between his toes. Take him to the vet for check up |
Do i need to keep my dog from licking his wounded foot? He cut it about an hour ago but the bleeding has stopped and he doesnt seem to be in much pain. I thought i would clean it but was wondering if i should also bandage it up. He's in his crate right now licking the **** out of it. Its a nice little gash between the paws and im pretty sure nothing is still stuck in there. Thoughts. Vet is closed btw and if he's limping or anything tomorroww ill definetly take him. |
As you were already told, dogs tend to be very stoic and hide their pain so you can't possibly know that he's not in much pain.
No, you can't let him lick it - he's going to keep on irritating it. From your previous description, this is going to need stitches. Put a LIGHT bandage on it - no duct tape!! - after it's been very gently cleaned and get him to the vet first thing tomorrow. Vets aren't too pleased when they have to try to stitch a wound with dried out edges - it makes it really hard for them to try and suture it. |
What is wrong with my dog who has mouth ulcers, a cyst on her foot and is licking her privates constantly? had her at the vets numerous times, she has had 3 batches of clavimox, benedryl, a cortizone shot.Had bloodwork and her guyneys are fine. Mouth and gums were pink, now have black and are swollen. Comes and goes. This has been going on for 2 months. She is under 2 |
I agree that a specialist or at least another opinion is in order here. You say her bloodwork is fine. I would take a look at it myself and educate myself about what is normal. I would also do some research on her symptoms. When I google "Mouth Ulcer Dog" I find many possibilities, including fungus, mange, allergies, and something called "Pemphigus foliaceus" which, is an auto-immune problem they describe as:
"Often affects feet and head; starts with pustules and progresses to severe crusting; depigmentation of the nose is common; itching may occur; if footpads and nails affected often see lameness; symptoms wax and wane; severely affected animals may have fever and loss of appetite."
These problems require tests to diagnose. Has your vet done any scrapings, biopsies, cultures, etc.? If not, it's time for you to advocate for your girl.
While the Vet is doing their thing, I would also talk to them about changing her food. Google food allergies in dogs for more information on ingredients that can cause problems and see if the food you're feeding has them. If she is on a food where the first ingredient is a grain, that's also not the best. If it's a common protein such as chicken, it can't hurt to try a less common, "novel" protein, such as lamb or duck. Just make sure to transition to the new food gradually. If traditional vets are unable to help, you might look for a holistic vet. Good luck to you! |
Has anyone heard of the foot-licking molester of philadelphia? there is a man going around accosting women and fondling thier toes... should i wear closed toes shoes to avoid this?? or do you think he would go after closed toed women because theyre more of a challenge? |
| Yes, it is reputed to be the mayor's infamous brother. |
My hamster keeps scratching its ear then licking its foot, is this normal or should i be worried? I haven't ever seen her do this before and i don't know if i should take her to the vet... |
Its normal so dont worry!
Hammy's clean them selves and like to lick under there nails.
No need to be worried,
If he constently scratches behind his ears he may have mights the best thing to do is go to your local pet shop and buy some might remover where you but the cream on him
Good luck!
hope i helped. |
My dog is driving me totally insane, he can't stop biting and licking his foot? I check for any rash or injury but I don't see anything. This has been going on like for the last 7 days or so. He sleeps in his basket inside the house in my bedroom and all I can hear is his licking and biting of his paw. I am putting him in another room, but that is not the point, I am concerned about his health. Should I take him to the vet? |
| get him a cone thing for his neck |
